Parking Changes Main Street

By Rachel Maiore, Ward 7 City Councilor

The two year old parking restriction on one side of Main Street, Leeds was meant  to address safety  concerns due to increased traffic in Leeds Village in the warmer months- but it has also caused an undue burden for residents without driveways. Despite interventions on the part of the DPW, road drainage problems continue and impact the limited parking spaces. After Main Street residents contacted me I sponsored and got an amendment passed in Council lifting the restrictions for the slower part of the year. While making the parking restriction seasonal-–May 1st through September 30th–doesn’t solve all the parking woes it at least ameliorates that burden in the off season. Thanks to the Main Street residents who took the time and thought to reach out to me and help advocate in Council for the change.

Thank you Councilor!

During public meetings in 2021 prior to the full parking ban on Main Street, the LCA agreed with the DPW director’s reccommendations for seasonal parking rather than an all year ban. The majority of Leeds respondents to an LCA survey also preferred seasonal parking. The Council’s decision is good news!
